Hearing about the death of the French actress Brigitte Bardot over Christmas brings to mind some wonderful images. A sex symbol who who had a major affect upon popular culture from the 1950s onwards. Famous for her many husbands and lovers and her free spirited nature, there was a darker side to her life in later years.
Her depression led to a number of suicide attempts. She became estranged from her only son. She gave up acting to become an animal rights campaigner but as she hot older she was notorious for remarks of a prejudicial remarks to Gay and Muslim people and was a prominent supporter of the far right National Front Party.
It would appear that for all her beauty, liberated sexuality and fame, she never found true happiness (Apart from caring for animals) A victim of fame maybe.
